ArtStarts on Saturdays is a free workshop series for families at our downtown gallery that features 45-minute, multi-disciplinary, culturally diverse workshops with some of the best children's artists. Award-winning children's entertainer Will Stroet connects with kids through high-energy, interactive and educational music in English and French.

VPS Performance Opportunities

I have just received word that VPS will be performing at both the Kitsilano Showboat and Car Free Day festival. The Senior Performance Troupe will be the primary performers but Dance Fusion, Glee and Musical Theatre classes will hopefully have the opportunity to join in!

Spring Break Camps

Spring Break camps were a hit this week. We chose exciting fun themes for each camp and we had such a blast. The Mini Star Campers became Starship Rangers and we ventured into space and met a robot named Dooby Wop who taught us how to dance. In Junior Stars camp, we became Seussians and explored the magical world of Doctor Seuss. In the Senior Camp, it was Slytherin vs Gryffindor as we put on a mini musical production of Harry Potter with a Quidditch Dance and all! More photos from the Harry Potter camp in the gallery. Peter Pan Post Production

I am so insanely proud of these talented kids. They were beyond incredible in their shows on Sunday. Here are a few photos to show you just how amazing they really were. Huge thank you's to everyone who made this production possible and such a success.

A little teaser for this weekend's production of Peter Pan. I am so incredibly proud of the entire cast and so grateful for the team's hard work and parents dedication. Thank you to Tanya for the beautiful costume pieces and to Robert Whitelaw for constructing our incredible ship/log house/bed.

Harry Potter Musical Spring Break Camp

SPRING BREAK SENIOR CAMP!

Join Vancouver Performing Stars for this crazy, fun and creative week of Hogwarts musical madness. We'll create a show based around the Harry Potter series including songs from the Very Potter Musicals and Harry and the Potters. Griffindor will battle Slytherin in a musical Quidditch match and all will be forced to unite, to defeat He Who Must Not Be Named. 

This camp is open to 8-12yr olds and will run March 18-22 at Hillcrest Community Centre from 3-5:30pm.

Glee Club at General Wolfe!

We are now in our third week of rehearsals for Peter Pan and things are flying along beautifully. It has been very fast paced but the kids have managed to keep up and have been very professional throughout. Tickets are now available at the following link. Shining Moment #10

On this Christmas Eve, I want to thank everyone who has made this year so special. Vancouver Performing Stars has grown and evolved beyond my wildest dreams. Some excited carollers braved the rain and joined me for what I hope will be an annual carolling night. I am so grateful for my students and their families.

Spring Break Camps

When registration opened for these camps in December, I never in a million years imagined them to fill this quickly. We are working on having another instructor for the Mini Performing Stars camp so we can increase enrolment so keep checking back.

Here are the details for this year's Spring Break Camps:

Mini Performing Stars Daycamp - March 18 - 22 - 9:30-11am (3-4 yrs) - Hillcrest Registration
Junior Performing Stars Daycamp - March 18 - 22 - 12:30-2:30pm (5-7 yrs) - Hillcrest Registration

Shining Moment #9

The success of my Glee classes happened by accident. It happened to be a camp that needed to be taught and the outcome was an enormous success. What I like about Glee songs is they evoke so much emotion whether joyful or sentimental which brings a natural performance style out of the kids. This Glee summer camp was such a blast and the kids worked hard to create instruments, props and a wonderful show.

Summer camps are always a highlight of my year. I get to know new students, work on numbers and props and have more time to really get to know the kids. This summer we had two Junior Performing Stars camps and this first one had many shining moments, but here are some of the best from these creative little kiddies.

After an insanely busy week, I'm back to the blog. This next photo comes from one of my summer ballet camps. It was nice to teaching solely dance again and the girls were very sweet. Registration for the January-March term of Performing Princesses which includes ballet technique, princess games and songs is below.

Shining Moment #6

This past summer I was asked to return to my hometown Vernon and teach musical theatre singing and dance to this amazing group of students. We created a great little show which they performed in our outdoor amphitheatre. It was a killer hot day, but they were troopers and I think back on this week very fondly. Thank you to Becky Martselos and Accentz Dance Studio for inviting me!

This class was so enthusiastic and hard working that we tackled a mini musical of Wizard of Oz. They not only learnt all the material, they performed it at their school fair. So proud. The video of their outdoor performance is below.
